Personalized Diet Advocated to Help Ameliorate Symptoms of IBD

In this compelling article on the effects of the Western diet and food intolerances in Crohn’s and UC, the authors lay out a convincing argument in favor of a personalized dietary approach in IBD.

They point out that it is “well established that with respect to food there is no ‘one size fits all’ diet for those with IBD” and go on to argue that “[n]utrigenomic research could enable individualised treatment in persons with IBD and enable more accurate tailoring of food intake, to avoid exacerbating malnutrition and to counter some of the adverse effects of the Western diet.”

The successes our IBD-clients are experiencing at Mymee reinforce these ideas and are helping build a database that can be leveraged to gain a greater understanding of the gene-nutrient interactions that contribute to IBD. Ultimately, this will lead the way to truly personalized treatment for sufferers of IBD and other autoimmune diseases.
